Memberships
What type of memberships do you offer?
There are four (4) types of memberships. Regular-for physicians who are currently licensed to practice in California. Associate-current medical students and retired physicians. Affiliate-Pre-medical students and healthcare professionals such as dentists, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, therapists. Auxiliary- Anyone in a non-medical field that supports the goals and activities of the society.
How much are membership fees?
Membership Types:
- Regular $100 - Filipino-American physicians currently licensed to practice in the USA
- Associate $80 - Filipino-American physicians who are retired or have inactive licenses, currently-licensed Physicians who do not have Filipino ethnicity
- Affiliate $50 - Other healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, therapists and technologists) and students
- Auxiliary $50 - Individuals in a non-medical field that support the goals and activities of the society
Do you have to work in healthcare to be eligible for membership?
No. You do not have to work in the medical field to become a member. Membership is open to anyone living in California.
I am not a California resident, can I still apply?
We prefer our members to live in proximity of the San Francisco Bay Area. In order to be part of PMSNC, we ask that you participate in the organization's activities and have some form of interaction with the current members. However, we do accept non-California resident members based on their commitment to the society.
I do not have Filipino ethnicity, can I still apply?
Yes. You do not have to be Filipino-American if you are applying for an Associate, Affiliate or Auxiliary membership. Our Regular membership is open to physicians who have Filipino ethnicity.
Medical Missions
Do I have to be a member in order to volunteer?
No. We accept volunteers who are not members. You do not need to be a member of PMSNC in order to volunteer in our medical missions.
How much does it cost to join the medical mission?
- Licensed health professionals or volunteers requiring a Special Temporary Permit to be able to practice as a foreigner: $300
- Current APL holders: $250
- Pre-medical students: $150
- All other volunteers: $200
The fee only covers the application and administrative costs. Volunteers have to pay for their flight, lodging, meals and other incidentals on their own.
How often do you conduct medical missions?
We hold medical missions once a year, usually the third week of January.
Do you hold medical missions outside the Philippines?
No. All of our medical missions take place in the Philippines.
When and where is your next medical mission?
We usually announce the date and location of the next medical mission on our website and our Facebook page. Check our website or Facebook page for announcements in Spring. (March to May.)
When can I apply for the next medical mission?
We usually announce the application date on our website and our Facebook page. Check our website or Facebook page for announcements in late Spring. (Around May.)
What type of volunteers do you accept?
Just like our membership, we accept all types of applicants representing different work backgrounds.
Do you accept volunteers from other states other than California?
Yes. We regularly have non-California residents participate in our missions. You do not need to be a California resident to join the mission.
How long is the medical mission?
One week. The team will see patients for five (5) whole days, usually Monday to Friday. Volunteers need to be at the medical mission site the weekend before the start of the mission. Typically, volunteers leave on the Saturday or Sunday after the mission.
